Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra visits flash flood affected areas in Sikkim’s Naga

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra visited the flash flood affected areas in Naga under Mangan district of Sikkim on Sunday. He assured relief and aid to the affected people highlighting the need to prioritise relief and rescue of the people stranded in the cut off areas. He said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly monitoring the situation.
 
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also visited the affected areas near Phidang bridge, Dikchu and interacted with the public and assured them all the aid and support.
 
Commending the efforts of the locals for the construction of a zip line for transportation of commodities, he urged them to continue working together. It may be mentioned that Dzongu has been completely cut off due to the recent disaster as the two bridges connecting Dzongu in Phidang and Sangklang have been completely washed away.
 
On the other side, a temporary bamboo bridge has been constructed at Chungthang connecting it to Pegong. The bridge will enable transportation of stranded tourists and local people to the other side from Chungthang. The Army is also constructing another bridge.
 
According to Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) death toll from flash floods has gone up to 33 including 9 Army personnel.  105 people are still missing. 2563 people have been rescued so far and around 6847 persons have taken shelter in 28 relief camps. A total of 1320 houses were severely damaged.
