Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has said that organ implantation facilities will be available in all the hospitals of the country by the end of 2024. He said, the Central Government will also provide financial assistance to the hospitals. Addressing a mega organ pledge event in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Dr Mandaviya said, the Government will also impart training to all the doctors for this. He said, apart from this, the Government will give ten thousand rupees per month to buy medicine for those poor people who get organs implanted.
On the occasion, Minister of State for Health S P Singh Baghel said, that out of a ten lakh population, less than one percent opt for organs. Mr Baghel said, he has also taken a pledge to donate his organ. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned organ donation in his Mann Ki Baat program on Akashvani and inspired them to organise this mega organ donation pledge event. He said, there is a demand for five lakh kidneys in the country.
Dr. Mandaviya also led the pledge for Organ Donation under the Ayushman Bhav campaign. Around ten thousand people are expected to take the pledge to donate organs in Agra.
A person after his death can give new life to eight people by donating vital organs like Kidneys, Liver, Lungs, Heart, and cornea. During the programme, Dr. Mandaviya inaugurated a super specialty block at Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, and an organ donation registry. He also laid the foundation stone for 23 Integrated Public Health Labs, and 87 Block Public Health Units.
