The Government has undertaken a comprehensive set of interventions including wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and biodiversity conservation for the rejuvenation of river Ganga and its tributaries.
Minister of State for Jal Shakti Bishweswar Tudu said this in a written reply in Lok Sabha today. He said that under the Namami Gange Programme, a total of 442 projects have been taken up at an estimated cost of over 37 thousand crore rupees, out of which 254 projects have been completed so far. He further added that the majority of the projects pertain to the creation of sewage infrastructure as untreated domestic and industrial wastewater is the main reason for pollution in the river. Nearly, 193 sewerage infrastructure projects have been taken up with a cost of over 30 thousand crore rupees.
