At an altitude of 19,024 feet, the Umling La fashion run in Eastern Ladakh beat the previous Guinness World Record for the highest-altitude fashion show in the world. The event was organised by the Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance, in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, featuring models hailing from 16 countries, including two from Ladakh.
A report:
A primary objective of this fashion run was to promote Ladakh's rich culture, tourism, and the recently GI-tagged Pashmina. Furthermore, their message spotlighted eco-tourism in Ladakh, highlighting the significance of protecting the region's fragile ecosystem. Serving as ambassadors of peace from various nations, the models came together not only to advocate for global harmony but also to raise awareness about climate change and the need to protect environment through sustainable development.
Before reaching Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world, the models stayed for the night in the Hanle area. Notably, the central government recently granted permission for foreign tourists to stay overnight in this region. Participants in this groundbreaking event belonged to Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, and other countries. They expressed their dedication to highlight and invite more and more people from their native countries to visit this place.
