The University Grants Commission has clarified that printing of Aadhaar numbers on degrees and provisional certificates is not permissible. The clarification came in the wake of media reports that state governments are considering printing full Aadhaar numbers on provisional certificates and degrees issued to students by the Universities. In a letter to Universities, the UGC, while citing Addhar regulation, added that no entity in possession of an Aadhaar number will make public any database or record containing it unless the number has been redacted or blacked out through appropriate means. The higher education regulator has asked the Universities to strictly comply with the rules and regulations of the Unique Identification Authority of India.
