Ugadi celebrated with traditional fervour

Telugu speaking people across the world are celebrating their Telugu New Year Day, Ugaadi on Sunday. People are observing the customary festivities with the traditional fervour and gaiety. The festival is being celebrated across the two Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to mark the beginning of the Hindu Lunar calendar.

People of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are celebrating the ‘Sri Vishwavasu’ Nama Ugadi of the Telugu Calendar in a colourful manner. People decorated the entrance of their houses with Mango and Neem leaves along with Jasmine and marigold flowers. They savour special Ugadi chutney today, comprising Neem flower, jaggery, salt, sugar cane, tamarind and mango to indicate six basic tastes and listen to Panchangam, the forecast of the New Year as it is an ancient practice on the occasion. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma wished people happiness and prosperity. The governor in a message highlighted Ugadi as a festival that reflects Telugu culture and fosters unity among Telugu-speaking communities worldwide. Coinciding Ugadi festival, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will be formally launching distribution of Fine Rice to the BPL families in the state from Huzurnagar Assembly constituency later this afternoon. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be participating in the official celebrations to be held in Vijayawada later this morning.
