Typhoon Yagi: Thousand evacuated from Hanoi, death toll reaches 155

 

           In Vietnam, thousands of people were evacuated from capital, Hanoi today as the death toll from Typhoon Yagi reached 155.

        Weather authorities said Hanoi’s Red River has reached its highest level in 20 years, threatening residents along the swollen banks.

    As per the local media reports, Yagi also caused a landslide yesterday engulfing the remote mountain village of Lang Nu in Lao Cai province which killed at least 22 people. Authorities are mobilizing forces to approach the landslide area to continue the search for survivors.

        The government estimated that across the country, the typhoon and subsequent landslides and floods have killed 155 people while 141 were missing.

        Typhoon Yagi also brought torrential rains and floods to areas of northern Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Damage was also reported in China. In Thailand, at least two people were killed and hundreds more were left stranded across two provinces. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said around nine thousand households have been impacted.
