Two people drown in Ranjit Sagar Dam in J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir, two youths drowned in Ranjit Sagar Dam in the Basholi area of the Kathua district of Jammu division while taking a bath in the dam yesterday. AIR Correspondent reports that four youths had come from neighbouring Dalhousie town of Himachal Pradesh for a picnic, and were taking a bath in the dam. 

However, two drowned in the dam due to the strong water current. The other two who hesitated to go into the deep waters reached the shore safely. A police team reached on the spot and started a rescue operation, and also called the SDRF team to start a search operation. The joint team of police, SDRF, and local youth put efforts to fish out the bodies from the dam, but could not locate them till the last reports came in. The youth were identified as Sahil, 19, and Gagan, 20, of Sadar Bazar Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. 

Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the incident. In a tweet, the Minister said, he is disturbed to learn about the unfortunate drowning of two boys, at Purthu Basholi in District Kathua.
