Tuberculosis cases in India decline more than double global reduction rate: MoS Health Anupriya Patel

The government has said that India is moving fast to become a TB-free nation this year. The incidence rate of TB in the country has shown a 17.7 per cent decline from 237 per lakh population in 2015 to 195 per lakh population in 2023, which is more than double the global reduction. Replying to supplementaries during question hour in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said, the deaths due to TB have also reduced by over 21 per cent in 2023 as compared to 2015. She said due to consistent efforts of the government TB treatment coverage has been extended to 32 per cent in the country. The Minister said the government has launched a 100-day TB Elimination Campaign in identified 347 priority districts across 33 States and UTs, to find missing TB cases.
