The first tropical storm to hit Los Angeles in more than 80 years unleashed floods across parts of Southern California. According to the National Hurricane Centre tropical storm Hilary has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone but the ongoing and historic amount of rainfall could still lead to life-threatening and catastrophic flooding.
 
Schools have been closed and evacuation orders for several communities have been issued as strong winds are expected to persist across portions of the western US today. Storm Hilary is located about 390 miles north of San Diego, in central Nevada, racing to the north at 29 miles per hour.
 
Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden ordered federal agencies to move personnel and supplies into the region.
