The Indian Army’s Trishakti Sappers from the Eastern Command have developed the Advanced Flood Monitoring System (AFMS). The work is earning national acclaim at Inno Yodha, a competition for defense and disaster management innovations.
Sensitised by last year’s Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Sikkim, AFMS, led by Hav Suresh PK of the Engineer Regiment, used cutting-edge technology to monitor water levels in real time. It integrates a microcontroller, UV sensor, and GSM module, utilizing the SONAR principle to issue early SMS alerts.
This innovation enhances disaster preparedness, enabling swift responses to protect troops and civilians. Recognized for its potential, the AFMS underscores the Indian Army’s dedication to leveraging technology for community safety.
