In Tripura, the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, which began on September 17 across the state, will continue till Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Urban and Rural Development Departments.
Talking to Akashvani News, Joint Secretary and Director of Urban Development Department Rajat Panth said that this year, the theme of Swachhta Hi Seva program is 'Youth vs. Garbage' and 'Tripura vs. Garbage', underlying the idea of building a garbage-free state and country.
Mr. Panth said, under the Swachhta Hi Seva fortnight, cleanliness drives in habitations, institutions, market areas to weed out garbage and campaign against single-use plastic are being carried out throughout the state.
Youth has a greater role to play against garbage, for which, youth are being more involved in these cleanliness drives. As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva fortnight, special cleanliness drives were conducted in three tourist places of the state, such as Unakoti, Gunavati Temple and Bhubaneswari Temple in Udaipur also marking World Tourism Day today. Mr Pant said in the cleanliness drives at tourist places, departments like Tourism, Rural development and the district administrations jointly conducted cleanliness drives.
He also informed that the central government has made a clarion call for one hour of Shram Daan on 1st October towards swachhata abhiyan. He said this Sram Daan program, titled as 'Ek Tarikh, Ek Ghanata, Ek Saath", has been taken up on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, to pay tribute to the father of the nation. Mr Pant also appealed to the people of the state to participate in the program on 1st October.
He said a cleanliness campaign will be conducted in all the areas and institutions under all Municipalities, Gram Panchayats, and Village Councils across the state under the fold of 'Ek Tarikh, Ek Ghanata, Ek Saath". In this programme, people from different walks of life including public representatives will participate. He expressed hope that this program will play an important role in making a garbage-free Tripura and garbage-free India as well.
