Tripura: Commissioning of EVMs begins at Umakanta Academy in Agartala

In Tripura, the Commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines have begun at the Umakanta Academy in Agartala on Saturday (6th April 2024), amidst tight security. The EVM commissioning will take place for next two days wherein they will be made fully ready for the April 19 poll. Returning Officer and District Collector of Tripura West Parliamentary seat Dr. Vishal Kumar inspected the commissioning process of the EVMs which will be installed at 793 polling stations across the constituency, including the Ramnagar seat.

Through EVM commissioning the names of the nine candidates who are in fray are attached with the ballot units. In the VVPAT machines, symbols are uploaded, and candidates setting is done in the control unit (CU). All EVMs are thoroughly checked, tested with the monitoring of CCTV cameras, three layered security and with the cooperation of representatives from political parties. He said, this time M3 model of EVMs will be used for polling, adding that they work smoothly in a hassle free way and do not face technical issues.

The RO said since there will be bye-election for the Ramnagar seat, there will be two EVMs at the polling stations in this particular constituency. The ballot unit which has pink papers will be used for bye-poll. Whereas, white papers will be used for Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile, following the suspension of a Special Police Officer from Sidhai Mohanpur for allegedly taking part in political programme, Mr. Kumar has cautioned the polling staff to avoid any kind of participation in political rallies and their association with political parties. He said, if anyone is found taking part in political activities strict action will be taken against them.
