Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today inaugurated a one-day National Conference on Buyers and Sellers of agricultural products in, Agartala. The conference-cum-exhibition was jointly organised by the state Horticulture and Soil Conservation department and APEDA, Government of India. The meet also had an interactive session among the sellers, buyers and investors from different states of the country.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that given the resources like agriculture and natural gas, Tripursa has a potential for huge industrial development. The state government, for this purpose, is providing all kinds of support to the investors.
Chief Minister said that the state is also working for agriculture and farmers' welfare in tune with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said over two lakh 47 thousand farmers in the state have received financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He said the state is also exploring more for export of agricultural products.
Also, Chief Minister said about 10 lakh farmers in the state have been brought under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. And, 3 lakh 7 thousand farmers received credits under Kisan Credit Card scheme.
Referring to the state fruit pineapple, Chief Minister said the Queen Pineapple of Tripura has bagged the GI tag. The state, also known for rubber plantation, is ranked second in terms of natural rubber production after Kerala. Over 94 thousand metric tons of rubber is produced in the state on 70 thousand hectares of land. He remarked that Tripura's economy has improved, thanks to rubber, adding that high-quality rubber sheets and rubber wood are now being used to make high-quality furniture.
