Traditional harvest festivals being celebrated in different parts of country today

Traditional harvest festivals are being celebrated in different parts of the country beginning today. People of Punjab are celebrating ‘Vaisakhi’, while Keralites call it ‘Vishu’, in West Bengal, it is celebrated as ‘Poila Boishakh’, in Assam, as ‘Bohag Bihu’. People in Tamil Nadu observe the festival as ‘Puthandu’. In the Northern part of the country, people are celebrating the spring harvest festival of Vaisakhi with full enthusiasm and brotherhood today. Farmers, especially in Punjab and Haryana, are expressing their gratitude for a good harvest and praying for prosperity in the coming year. 
 
People in Tamil Nadu will be observing Puthandu tomorrow. The day is celebrated as the Tamil New Year with great zeal and intensity on the first day of the Tamil month, Chitterai. 
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted people on the occasion. In her message, the President said that these vibrant festivals inspire people to work with commitment and dedication towards the development of the nation. She highlighted that these festivals, celebrated during the harvest season in various parts of India, symbolise the country’s rich social traditions and unity in diversity.
 
The President said that through these festivals, the nation honors the hard work of country’s farmers and expresses its gratitude to them. The Vice President said, these vibrant harvest festivals reflect the rich cultural mosaic and agrarian spirit of Bharat. On the occasion, Mr Dhankhar called upon people to embrace the spirit of renewal, prosperity, and unity which the festivals represent. In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the festivals bring new hope, happiness and abundance into everyone’s life. Mr Modi said the festivals celebrate the spirit of togetherness, gratitude and renewal.
