Torrential rains in Bolivia claim 37 lives, hundreds of homes destroyed

Torrential rains in Bolivia have claimed 37 lives since November. According to Deputy Minister of Civil Defence, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, nearly 16 fatalities are reported in the central department of Cochabamba. The rains have caused widespread destruction, with nearly 379 homes destroyed, primarily in La Paz with 319 homes.

Authorities have issued weather alerts for several departments, with the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service predicting rains to persist until April. The government is mobilizing resources to aid in relief efforts and rebuild affected communities, facing significant challenges due to the severity of the flooding. The National Meteorological Service has warned of continued severe weather, urging preparedness for further flooding.
