TMC leaders today continued with their protest in New Delhi over alleged misuse of central agencies by the government. Yesterday, a party delegation comprising MPs Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sagarika Ghose and Saket Gokhale met the Election Commission over the issue alleging misuse of NIA to intimidate TMC workers in West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The party leaders had urged the poll body to intervene in the matter. Later, they staged a protest outside the Commission office in the national capital and were detained by Delhi Police before being brought to the Mandir Marg Police Station in the city. However, Delhi police later released the TMC leaders yesterday but they are still protesting in the police station. Aam Aadmi Party also came in support of protesting TMC leaders. Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said that BJP leaders were holding campaigns while opposition leaders were being harassed by the CBI, ED, IT Department and NIA.
Meanwhile, the BJP has hit out at TMC over its protest. Party Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that TMC was standing with people doing violence in West Bengal. He said that the teams of ED and NIA were being attacked in the state. Mr Poonawalla accused the ruling party in the state of protecting corrupt and anti-social elements.
