Three Naxalites, including two females, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra today.
Superintendent of Police Nilotpal said an intelligence input was received that some members of the Perimili Dalam were camping in the forest near Katrangatta village in Bhamragarh taluka with an aim to carry out subversive activities during their ongoing Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) period. Accordingly, he dispatched two units of C-60 jawans under Special Mission Additional Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh to carry out anti-Naxal operations. While the police were conducting a search operation in the area, the Naxalites fired indiscriminately at them, C-60 jawans also retaliated heavily.
After the firing stopped, the police inspected the spot and found dead bodies of one male and two female Naxalites. One of them was identified as Vasu, in-charge and commander of the Perimili Dalam. Superintendent of Police Nilotpal said that the identity of the other two female naxalites has not been determined yet.
Meanwhile, three automatic weapons, one AK 47 rifle, 1 carbine and 1 INSAS rifle, Naxal literature and items were recovered from the spot.
Superintendent of Police Nilotpal informed that the anti-Naxal campaign has been intensified in the area.
