The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed weaker yesterday. The three major US indices traded in a narrow range, on the first day of seasonally slow August, ahead of U.S. jobs data and major companies' earnings reports later this week.
 
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2 percent while the S&P 500 declined 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index fell 0.4 percent.
