In Kerala, thousands of people from different walks of life lined up along the MC Road today, to have a glimpse of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who passed away in Bengaluru yesterday. The body is being taken from Thiruvananthapuram to his native Puthuppally in Kottayam district.
People shouted slogans and showered petals, as the hearse carrying the body slowly moved on. The vehicle stopped at several places to enable the public to pay last respects.
Oommen Chandy's humane approach and unassuming ways had endeared him to many. He touched their lives, offered succour and solace irrespective of their political leanings.
The body was brought to the state capital Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru by a special aircraft yesterday. It was kept at his residence, the Durbar Hall and at the KPCC office, where thousands paid homage to the deparated leader.
The mortal remains is expected to reach Kottayam tonight and will be kept at the Thirunakkara Maidan for the public to pay homage.
The former Chief Minister will be laid to rest at the St George Orthodox church cemetry at Puthuppally tomorrow evening.
