Thiruonam, the most auspicious day of Onam, being celebrated today

Kerala is celebrating Thiruonam today, the most auspicious day of Onam, the state’s largest cultural festival. Keralites across the globe, irrespective of religious affiliations, are celebrating the festival in full vigour. The festival marks the homecoming of the legendary ruler of the state, King Mahabali, and showcases the unique customs, traditions, and cuisine of the state. Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, is celebrated in the Malayalam month of Chingam. It is believed the state had its golden period during the reign of King Mahabali, and his annual visits to his subjects mark the Onam celebrations.

Onam is associated with the famous Onasadya, onakodi, ujyallattam , pulikalli, vallamkalli,  etc. This year the official Onam celebration by the State Govt was cancelled on account of the Wayanad landslide disaster. Onam is being celebrated this time with full vigour with solidarity to Wayanad, as it is also a symbol of hope and overcoming all odds into a prosperous future.
