Polling concluded today for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in ninety three Parliamentary Constituencies spread over ten States and one Union Territory. Except few minor incidents, voting was reported to be by and large peaceful. Moderate to brisk polling has been reported from different constituencies in this phase. Over 60 percent voter turn out was recorded in the this phase till 5 PM.
With the conclusion of third phase, voting for 284 out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies have been completed. The rest 259 constituencies will be covered in remaining four phases.
Constituencies which went to polls today in the third phase include, twenty five in Gujarat, 14 in Karnataka, 11 in Maharashtra and 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Besides, voting also took place for nine seats in Madhya Pradesh, seven in Chhattisgarh, five in Bihar, four seats each in Assam and West Bengal, two seats each in Goa and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu
The polling was also held for the Betul Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Prades today. At this seat voting was earlier scheduled to be held in the second phase but was rescheduled due to the demise of the BSP candidate.
The polling for Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, earlier scheduled in the third phase, will now take place in the Sixth phase on 25th May. In Surat Parliamentary Constituency of Gujarat, BJP candidate has already been elected unopposed.
A total of one thousand 331 candidates were in the fray in this phase.
Some of the prominent candidates whose political fate has been sealed in the EVMs today include Senior BJP leaders Amit Shah, Mansukh Mandaviya, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Narayan Rane, Parshottam Rupala, Pralhad Joshi, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Basavaraj Bommai, Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Supriya Sule.
A large number of foreign delegates also witnessed India’s polling process and its management. 75 delegates from 23 countries visited polling stations in six states, as part of the International Election Visitor Programme.
