The Manipur Government requests the central government to revoke the Free Movement Regime with Myanmar

The Manipur Government has requested the Central government to permanently revoke the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar, which allows people on either side to travel up to 16 kilometers inside the other country. Addressing a press conference today, Chief Minister N Biren Singh warned that all illegal arms and ammunition holders to surrender to the government within fifteen days and the government has been launching a massive search operation in the State. He said Manipur has been witnessing normalcy in the past few days without reports of any untoward incident. He said the Government has formed a Cabinet sub-committee to identify illegal immigrants coming from outside. Further, he explained the importance of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar international border.
