In Tennis, American teenager Coco Gauff was the first big-name casualty at Wimbledon after losing the match against a resurgent Sofia Kenin. Seventh seed Gauff lost 6-4 2-6 6-4 to qualifier Kenin in the first round of Women's Singles.
Top seed Iga Swiatek of Poland, American fourth seed Jessica Pegula, French fifth seed Caroline Garcia, Belarusian 19th seed Victoria Azarenka, Russian 11th seed Daria Kasatkina and her compatriot 12th seed Veronika Kudermetova have also advanced into the second round.
In Men's Singles, top seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Italian eighth seed Jannik Sinner have entered the second round. Serbian Second seed Novak Djokovic and Norwegian fourth seed Casper Ruud have already progressed into the second round.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon honoured the legendary Roger Federer as the eight-time champion returned to the prestigious tournament today, after playing his final Grand Slam match there, in 2021. The Centre Court crowd greeted the Swiss maestro with a prolonged standing ovation, mixed with cheers as he made his way to the Royal Box. Emotionally moved, Federer took his seat alongside his wife Mirka and the Princess of Wales Catherine.
