Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways General Dr V K Singh said that telecommunication networks along highways are crucial for providing better services and reducing road accidents. Addressing a Press Conference in New Delhi today, the Minister said that his Ministry is coordinating with the Department of Telecommunications to ensure an uninterrupted mobile phone network along the National Highways. He informed that the initiative is underway to expand 4G coverage in uncovered villages.
The Minister said that this effort will directly benefit the road network and enable us to prevent accidents and mishaps effectively. He highlighted the rapid expansion of 5G networks in India saying that this will greatly benefit the country's road network. Dr Singh emphasized that a pilot project is underway to implement barrier-less tolling, which uses satellite-based technology, on the Delhi-Meerut Express. He said, the Ministry is also working on improving the Optical Fibre network. The total outlay for the mobile tower projects is more than 43 thousand eight hundred 68 crore rupees. He further added that 5G has been rolled out in 631 districts.
