In Telangana, a total 1439 electors are exercising their franchise at 10 polling stations set up for MLC by-election for Mahabubnagar local bodies constituency. The polling that began at 8AM will continue till 4PM. The by-poll was necessitated following the resignation of BRS MLC K. Narayan Reddy. He joined the Congress just before the Assembly polls, and won from Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency. The Congress has fielded M. Jeevan Reddy as its candidate for the by-election while the BRS fielded Naveen Kumar Reddy. An independent is also in the fray.

Elected representatives of local bodies, namely ZPTCs, MPTCs in Zilla and Mandal Parishads and councillors in municipalities are voters in this election. All MLAs in the purview of the constituency will become ex-officio members and exercise their voting right. Our Correspondent says, the MLC by-elections has become prestigious ahead of the Lok Sabha elections for both ruling Congress and the BRS in the state. The counting of votes will take place on 2nd April.
