Telangana: Rescue and relief activities intensify in rain-affected districts, MeT officials warn heavy rains in many districts

In Telangana, rescue and relief activities have been intensified in the rain-affected districts. Several villages have been inundated due to heavy rains for the past week and low laying areas are being flooded due to rising water levels in rivers, rivulets, and streams. NDRF and State Disaster Response Forces are in full swing in rescue and relief operations. Thousands of people stranded on bus stations, railway stations, and highways have been rescued. One more team of NDRF has been sent to Khammam town and a chopper has been sent to Burugampadu in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, which was severely affected. River Godavari is flowing at Bhadrachalam temple town over the second danger level.
 
State Chief Secretary, Shanti Kumari directed District Collectors to carry out intensive relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas.
 
Akashvani Correspondent reports that hundreds of villages have been marooned due to heavy rains that lashed several parts of the State for the past week. More residential areas across the state have been inundated due to flooding. Khammam, Kothagudem, Mulugu, Bhupalpally, Warangal, Peddapally, and Nizamabad are among the districts which witnessed rain havoc. According to the state authorities, nearly 10 thousand seven hundred people from over 108 villages have been shifted to safer locations and relief camps across the state.

Army choppers have rescued six people who got washed away in a stream in Moranchapalli village in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district and sent them to relief camps.  About 600 people from the village have been evacuated following inundation. 19 workers who were trapped in a sand quarry have been rescued in Peddapalli district. Following requests from various districts, the state authorities have sought ten more NDRF teams and four choppers. Meanwhile, the met officials warned that heavy rains are likely to occur for two more days in many districts.
