Telangana government intensifies relief efforts amid heavy rains and flooding

The Telangana state government has stepped up relief measures following heavy rains in the state, which have led to the inundation of low-lying areas in several districts. At least four persons have died, and about half a dozen people are reported missing. Dozens of people from affected areas have been shifted to relief camps in some places in the state.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who reviewed the situation, has directed senior officials to implement relief measures on a war footing and remain vigilant in areas where heavy rains are forecast. He asked them to set up a system at the Command Control Centre to handle the emergency situation and provide training to eight police battalions on par with the NDRF for emergency services during heavy rains. He also announced an ex-gratia payment of 5 lakh rupees to the families of those who died in rain-related incidents. He mentioned that compensation for the loss of cattle, goats, and sheep will be increased.

The state government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damage to the Centre. The Chief Minister also declared immediate assistance of five crore rupees to the worst-hit districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet. Mr. Reddy will be visiting the worst-affected districts, including Khammam. Meanwhile, people in rain-affected areas are facing severe hardships due to inundation and swollen rivulets and streams. Road links to several villages have been severed.
