The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested 165 persons during the past six months for allegedly involved in 795 cybercrime cases in the state and over 3000 cases across the country. TGCSB Director Shikha Goel informed that seven cybercrime police stations were established in the state and are functioning since this year. The teams have been working out clues in identifying, tracking, and locating the cybercriminals involved. She said 165 criminals involved in different cases in Telangana and other states were nabbed so far, and the information about the suspects apprehended by the TGSCB was also shared with the police stations concerned across the country.
The director further said the police found the fraudsters were involved in various cybercrimes like part-time jobs, business investment frauds, digital arrests, loan frauds, cyber slavery, hacking, advertisement frauds, impersonation, matrimonial frauds, and sextortion, among others. The people were involved in different roles like operating mule accounts, bank account suppliers, account operators, SIM suppliers, bank officials, travel agents, etc. Arrested persons are from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, New Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.
The TGSCB analysis of the crime profiles of the arrested persons revealed that 45 percent of them are graduates and postgraduates, including B.Tech, MBA, and MCA, while 20 percent are intermediate, and 35 percent of them are below SSC and illiterates. 34 percent of them are businessmen, which includes hotels, restaurants, and real estate, and 21 percent are self-employed, which includes digital content creators, cab drivers, gym trainers, event managers, RMP doctors, and others. About 49 percent of them are in the age group of 21 to 30 years, while 5 percent of them are above 50 years of age.
