The Telangana State Legislative Assembly has passed the Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservation) Bill, 2025, paving the way for sub-categorisation in reservation for 59 communities among SCs. The bill was tabled by Health Minister D. Raja Narasimha yesterday. He explained that the Scheduled Castes would be divided into three categories with Group- I to get 1 per cent reservation within the 15 per cent quota for SCs while Group II would get 9 per cent reservation and Group III would get 5 per cent reservation.
Calling it a historic day, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said, many activists have sacrificed their lives during the struggle for SC sub-categorisation. Referring to the protests by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), he said, from the SC subcaste they will get 9 per cent reservation in the state. All parties including the ruling Congress, opposition BRS, BP, MIM and CPI have supported the Bill and it was passed unanimously last night. The Legislative Council will also consider the Bill.
