The Telangana state assembly has passed the “Young India Skills University Telangana (Public-Private Partnership) Bill 2024. The bill is aimed at establishing A Skills University to impart skills in 17 subjects, which can ensure the student’s employment in the competition of the course at the university. Speaking on the bill, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said unemployment has been increasing due to a lack of skills and stressed the need for changes in the policies in tune with the advancement of the world. He said the government has drawn inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s Young India magazine, and lakhs of youths will be provided jobs. He also said the SC, ST, and BC students will be provided fee reimbursement and a reservation policy will be implemented.

Legislature Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu said 2000 students will be given admission in six courses during the current academic year. He also said the government is planning to establish colleges and provide training, especially to rural youth in the districts, in the future. As suggested by MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, the minister agreed to insert the word Telangana in the name of the bill and the university. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, BJP leader Maheswar Reddy, CPI member Sambasiva Rao, MIM leader Akbaruddin, and Jaffer Hussain also spoke on the bill, among others.
