The depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal has moved west northwestwards with a speed of 12 km per hour and lay centred over the same region about 360 km east-southeast of Chennai, 390 km east of Puducherry, and 450 km south-east of Nellore. It is likely to move west northwestwards and cross North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast tomorrow in the early hours.
Storm warning signal three has been hoisted at Chennai, Cuddalore, Ennore, Kattupalli, and Puducherry. Caution signal number 1 has been hoisted at Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, Pamban, and Puducherry.
Chennai city and suburban areas recorded 20 to 30 cm of rainfall yesterday. The extremely heavy rainfall caution has been withdrawn as light and moderate intermittent showers are expected to continue in the coastal areas today.
