Tamil Nadu CM Leads Fair Delimitation Meet; Southern CMs Oppose Population-Based Seat Cut

The first Joint Action Committee meeting on fair delimitation began in Chennai this morning. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the meeting. Tamil Nadu CM said that the second Joint Action Committee on Fair Delimitation will be held in Hyderabad.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Stalin said that the delimitation based on the population will reduce the seats of representation at the Parliament, which is against the values of democracy. He said that delimitation can be done provided it is fair and after consultations.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar opposed delimitation on the basis of the latest census rather than the 1971 census. Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan said that this was an attempt to thwart democratic values and also federalism, which is the basis of democracy.

The State BJP Chief K. Annamalai called today’s fair delimitation meeting a drama to distract the attention of the people from corruption. Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also attended the meeting.
