Table Tennis: Sreeja Akula reaches finals in women’s singles & women’s doubles at WTT

In Table Tennis, India’s Sreeja Akula has reached the finals in both women’s singles and women’s doubles at the WTT Contender in Lagos, Nigeria last evening. Sreeja also made history by becoming the first Indian to advance to a WTT contender final in singles category. In the first singles semi-final, Sreeja defeated compatriot Sutirtha Mukherjee 3-2, to secure her place in the final. While in the second semi-final, another Indian, Ayhika Mukherjee lost 2-3 to China’s Ding Yijie, setting up a summit clash between Sreeja and Ding Yijie this evening.

In women’s doubles, Sreeja partnered with Archana Girish Kamath dominated their semi-final against Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee with a 3-nil victory. They will face Diya Parag Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade in an all-Indian final later this evening. Diya and Yashaswini defeated China’s Sun Sinan and Ding Yijie 3-1 in their semi-final.
 
In men’s doubles, Harmeet Desai and Manav Vikas Thakkar have also secured their spot in the final by defeating China’s Kang Youde and Ning Xiankun 3-nil in the semi-final. They are set to compete against Olajide Omotayo and Azeez Solanke of the host country in the final later today.
