In cricket, India defeated Sri Lanka in the final T20 International, making a clean sweep of the three-match series. Having already won the first two games comfortably, India went into the third match at Pallekele, high on confidence while hosts Sri Lanka hoped to put on a better performance. Put into bat, India managed to post 137 runs for 9 wickets on a track that was tricky and aiding the spinners.
Chasing the target of 138 runs, Sri Lanka who were cruising smoothly at one stage faltered in the death overs and were restricted at 137 for 8 wickets by Indian spinners, taking the game into the super over. Sri Lanka could only manage 2 runs in the super over. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav hit a four in the very first ball completing the formality of 3 run target. Washington Sundar was named Player of the Match, while Suryakumar Yadav was announced the Player of the Series. The two teams will now move to Colombo for a series of three One Day Internationals. The Indian team will be led by Rohit Sharma in the ODI series.
