Survivors of Morocco's deadliest earthquake struggled to find food and water today, as the search for the missing in remote villages continued and the death toll of over 2,000 is likely to go up. Fearing aftershocks, many people opted to stay outdoors for a second night and slept on the streets.

Troops and emergency services scrambled to reach remote mountain villages where victims are still feared trapped. Al-Haouz province, where the epicentre was located, suffered the most deaths with 1,293, followed by the province of Taroudant where 452 lives were lost. The latest Interior Ministry figures put the death toll at 2,012, with 2,059 people injured.

The government said on Saturday, it was taking urgent measures to address the disaster including strengthening search and rescue teams, providing drinking water and distributing food, tents and blankets.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said, more than three lakh people have been affected by the disaster.
