NSE’s Chief Business Development Officer, Sriram Krishnan, said that this milestone signifies a major shift in India’s investment landscape, enabling millions to contribute to economic growth and deepen capital markets. It took 14 years to reach the first crore investors, but the last crore joined in just five months. Daily registrations range from 47,000 to 73,000, driven by digitization, investor awareness, financial inclusion, and strong market performance. The median investor age is 32, with one in four being women. Leading states in registrations are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Indian markets have seen positive returns for nine years. In 2024, the Nifty 50 returned 8.8 percent, while the Nifty 500 gained 15.2 percent.
