Sri Lanka’s opposition leader, Sajith Premadasa, has expressed regret over the government’s decision to make changes to the leadership of the Suwa Seriya ambulance service.
Taking to ‘X,’ MP Premadasa said that the dedicated team behind the 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service was one that had excelled during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.
He pointed out that such high-performing teams are rare and should be rewarded and not disregarded due to political shifts.
MP Sajith Premadasa expressed his comments shortly after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed a new chairman and two new board members to the 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation this week. The widely acclaimed island-wide ambulance service foundation was started in 2016 under Indian grant assistance of 7.56 million dollars on a request from Sri Lanka. The service was further augmented under an additional grant funding of 15.09 million dollars, providing about 300 state-of-the-art ambulances.
