Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a virtual meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva yesterday, reaffirming the island nation’s commitment to economic reforms under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
As Sri Lanka reaches the halfway mark of its 48-month EFF arrangement, President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for the IMF’s support in overcoming the 2022 economic crisis. He highlighted the progress in macroeconomic stability, debt restructuring, and governance improvements. The president emphasised that ongoing collaboration with the IMF is crucial to sustaining economic recovery amid global uncertainties.
Ms. Georgieva praised Sri Lanka’s achievements, including the completion of the third review of the financing program and major debt restructuring efforts. She reiterated the IMF’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s reform agenda, stressing the importance of strong governance. Both leaders agreed to continue cooperation to secure long-term economic stability.
