Sri Lankan President allocates 50 million Lankan rupees to assist those affected by floods

The Sri Lankan Meteorological Department has forecast that weather conditions are expected to improve. The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal persisted in the same region late last night and is likely to move west-northwestward, becoming a well-marked low-pressure area over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal this morning.

However, moderate rains are expected in various parts of the island, including the Western and Northern provinces. At the same time, the flood situation is expected to improve, though there are increasing concerns about waterborne and water-related diseases.

Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has allocated 50 million Lankan rupees to assist those affected by the devastating floods that have swept across the country.

The Disaster Management Center has reported that over 150,000 people from around 39,000 families have been affected by the weather conditions. Three deaths have been confirmed so far, and over 10,000 people are currently being sheltered in 80 relief centres.
