Sri Lankan Health Authorities Warn of Potential Dengue Resurgence Amid Rainy Weather

Sri Lanka’s health authorities have warned that there is a potential resurgence of dengue fever due to the rainy weather and ensuing water logging situation. With the monsoon season contributing to ideal breeding conditions for dengue-carrying mosquitoes, health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant.

National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said the total number of dengue cases had risen to 40,829 by 15 October 2024. The officials said that 20 dengue deaths have been reported in the country in the year so far.

The Western Province, including the Colombo District, has been particularly hard-hit, with 10,110 patients. Other areas are also facing significant outbreaks, including Gampaha with 4,744, Kalutara with 2,243, and Jaffna reporting 4,113, raising serious public health concerns.
