In Sri Lanka, as the Avurudu and Tamil New Year approach on April 13 and 14, the government is gearing up for the celebrations. To accommodate increased travel during this festive period, the Department of Railways has launched 10 special train services starting 11th April.
Additionally, the National Transport Commission has implemented an integrated transport plan in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Transport Board, effective until 21st April, to facilitate smooth travel for those returning to their hometowns. These measures aim to ensure that citizens can partake in traditional festivities, which include preparing sweets like Konda Kavum and Kokis, engaging in rituals such as lighting the hearth, and playing games like Kotta Pora, fostering community spirit and cultural heritage.
