Sri Lanka reports nearly 5,000 dengue cases, 2 deaths in Jan

In Sri Lanka, over 5000 dengue cases and two dengue-related deaths have been reported over the month of January. The National Dengue Control Unit reports that 5459 dengue cases have been recorded and it has identified 16 high-risk dengue zones across the country. The highest number of cases, 44.7 per cent, was recorded in the Western Province, with 2,439 cases, including 849 in Gampaha and 740 in Colombo.

 

Authorities have urged the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue. In 2024, the island nation recorded almost 50,000 cases with 24 fatalities.
