Sri Lanka National Election Commission summons all candidates contesting presidential election for discussion

In Sri Lanka, the National Election Commission summoned all the candidates contesting the presidential election in the island nation and their representatives for a discussion today. It is reported that election finance regulations and other guidelines were discussed with the candidates. At the meeting, some candidates shared their concerns with the Election Commission on the use of state resources and the conduct of certain media institutions as well. Meanwhile, a separate discussion was also held with election observers at the National Election Commission this afternoon.

Earlier yesterday, the poll body emphasised on door to door campaigning restrictions. Chairman of Election Commission R.M.A.L.  Ratnayake said that the maximum number of people who can participate in the door-to-door distribution of election pamphlets is 5. He added that if more than 5 people go together to distribute election pamphlets from house to house, it is an illegal act, and the Police should immediately apply the Law against them.

The 2024 Presidential Election is scheduled to be held on the 21st of September.
