As the southwest monsoon establishes its presence over Sri Lanka, the island nation is experiencing intensified showery and windy conditions. Meteorological officials have issued warnings of heavy rainfall, forecasting showers exceeding 100mm in several regions.
The Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces are expected to bear the brunt of the downpour, alongside the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for potential flooding and disruptions.
The island’s Met Department has urged the public to stay vigilant and heed local advisories as the monsoon conditions persist, ensuring safety and minimising the impact on daily activities and infrastructure.
