South Korea’s ambassador to Australia resigned amid investigation controversy

South Korea’s ambassador to Australia has resigned just weeks before a general election after public outcry over his appointment while being investigated for corruption. Lee Jong-sup was appointed as ambassador to Australia just four weeks ago. He is being investigated by the anti-corruption agency over allegations that he tried to improperly influence a probe into the death of a marine who was involved in a search and rescue operation during floods last year while he was Defence Minister. Seoul’s Foreign Ministry said, his resignation was reported to the President and it has been decided it will be accepted.
