At the International Film Festival of India today, renowned Australian filmmaker Philip Noyce stressed the importance of cost-cutting in filmmaking during a masterclass session on the theme of survival in New Hollywood. He said that pre-sales are crucial for any film, and if they aren’t possible, production costs should be minimized.
Noyce also shared insights into the pre-production process, advocating for the use of animatronics and storyboarding to enhance efficiency and reduce production costs. During the session, Noyce shared clips from his films to engage cinephiles and discussed the evolving film industry, stressing that smartphones are the “studio of the future” and that emerging filmmakers will redefine cinema through innovative use of technology.
Mr Noyce is also the recipient of this year’s Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.
