Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary Atul Kumar Tiwari has said that the participation of women in the workforce plays a crucial role in the growth of the country’s economy. While addressing the orientation session of the workshop on Empowering Adolescent Girls and Women in New Delhi today, he emphasized the need for women’s skill development. He said adolescent girls and women in India face several challenges including limited training, education, socio-economic constraints, and economic opportunities. He said, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry and Women and Child Development Ministry have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to address these challenges.
Women and Child Development Secretary, Anil Malik said that under the MoU the two ministries are working on providing non-traditional skill training to women. He informed that in the pilot phase, around four thousand women will be trained from across nineteen states for three months. The primary focus of the initiative is to increase female participation, improve livelihoods, and foster entrepreneurial skills and self-sufficiency.
