Nine people were killed in an attack in Muscat, IS claims responsibility

In Oman, nine people, including a policeman, have been killed and 28 others injured in an attack on Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Muscat. The Indian embassy in Oman informed about the casualties on the social media platform X and also stated that another Indian had been injured in the gun attack last night. The three unidentified gunmen were killed on the spot during the exchange of gunfire with Omani security troops. The shooting occurred on the eve of Ashura, an annual day of mourning commemorating the 7th-century martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussain. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Muscat has also issued a security alert following the shooting. This is the first attack on a Shiite mosque in Oman. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
