On the occasion of Medin Full Moon Poya Day, the High Commission of India in Colombo distributed 500 Sinhala-translated Amar Chitra Katha Jataka Tales comic books to students. The comic books were distributed among students of Siri Pagngnathissa Dharma Vidyalaya at Sri Sudarshanarama Purana Viharaya, Kiribathgoda.
Translated and Published by Amar Chitra Katha, India’s largest comic book publisher, these illustrated stories make Buddhist teachings accessible and engaging for young readers. The initiative aims to inspire children by instilling moral values through storytelling.
Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Professor Ankuran Dutta, symbolically handed over the books, receiving an enthusiastic response from students eager to deepen their understanding of Dhamma.
This effort further strengthens India-Sri Lanka cultural ties and promotes Buddhist heritage. The High Commission of India has said that it will continue donating Jataka Tales books to Sunday schools across Sri Lanka, fostering a deeper connection with Buddhist teachings among young learners.
